When Mark from Promevo.TV made this video about the new Acer Spin 11 Chromebook, we couldn’t wait to share a deeper dive! The Spin 11 is a winner in the EdTech market because it can take almost anything a student can throw at it and still be a device they’ll enjoy using.
Spin Wins Against Drops, Water, and Germs
While most people panic when they get water near their electronics, no need to fear with the Acer Spin 11! Acer designed the Chromebook to be spill resistant to 330 ml of liquid through the channel and island configuration of the keyboard. This system and the recessed keys let the Acer easily handle a knocked-over soda can or a splash of coffee.
The Acer Spin 11 also is nearly drop-proof. In compliance with Military Standard 8106G, the laptop was tested by dropping it from four feet over 25 times, so no need to worry if it takes a tumble. A rubber bumper helps disperse energy if the laptop takes a tumble, and the screen has a high fracture threshold (30 pounds of critical load). Overall, the Acer can handle 130 pounds of pressure, so an average 13-year-old could stand on the closed Chromebook without damaging it.
Spin 11 doesn’t just have a tough build, it’s tough on germs too. The Chromebook’s screen is made of Antimicrobial Corning® Gorilla® Glass. Ionic silver continually eliminates more than 99.9% of the screen’s surface bacteria without antibacterial sprays or gels, which are only temporary solutions. The Spin 11 does this without compromising the strength of Gorilla® Glass, which keeps the screen scratch resistant and unlikely to be damaged if dropped.
Form AND Function
As Mark from Promevo.TV said in our video, just because the Acer Spin 11 is rugged, doesn’t mean it compromises on function. An 11.6-inch touchscreen allows students to handwrite notes and play educational games. The HD screen and Intel® HD Graphics 500 GPU display clear images without becoming washed out, allowing students to explore museums with Google Arts & Culture and create their own masterpieces with the optional Wacom Pen.
If your students are more interested in photography than digital art, the Spin 11 has two cameras. The keyboard is home to its 5MP camera with an 88° wide viewing angle. Fold the Chromebook into tablet mode to use the camera as a magnifying glass, film movies, and take photos, while viewing the images on the screen. Alternatively, you can put it into tent mode to use the VGA webcam, so students can video call and work collaboratively.
With the high levels of performance and great apps, you might expect the Spin 11 to have a minimal battery life. However, Acer advertises a 10-hour battery, and Mark found that he was able to get closer to 11. This could be a full day of school and study time between charges!
The Acer 11 Spin is a great Chromebook for students. Whether it’s being used in elementary schools, colleges, or anywhere in between, the durability, antimicrobial glass, and battery life make it a wonderful option for young minds.
