Here at Promevo, we were excited to test the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education 10.1”. It’s one of the tablets eligible for the Google Play for Education Program. The side by side window feature of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education allows students to open and run two apps simultaneously, while the Google Play for Education Program allows for easy management of Apps for the teachers.
These two features alone make the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education ideal for a classroom and learning environment. We were curious to find out how this device performed when we ran it through our battery of tests.
Google Play for Education Compatibility
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education 10.1”, as of now, is one of only four tablets that are compatible with Google Play for Education. The other three tablets you can use Google Play for Education with are the Nexus 7, the ASUS Transformer Pad TF103C, and the HP Slate 8 Pro. Google Play for Education enabled tablets allow administrators and teachers to easily deploy and manage apps, books, and videos for individuals, classrooms, or even entire districts.
Google Play for Education Licenses give teachers access to approved tools and content that help them meet the needs of their students. The apps on the Google Play for Education store are approved and recommended by teachers, so teachers and administrators will have no problem finding quality educational apps for their intended grade levels and subjects.

Case. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education has a visually pleasing aesthetic. The back of the device is finished with simulated leather similar to other recent Samsung devices, and it has a chrome edge. The front bezel is black, under glass, and measures 5/8” on the top and bottom and 7/16” on the sides. Overall this is a sleek, modern looking device. Also of note, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education includes a protective case. It does not come packed with the device, but rather ships separately.
Display. The tablet has a 10.1″ LCD, WXGA (1280×800) HD display. Its images are crisp with vivid colors, and is great for watching HD video, looking at HD pictures, or using apps.
Speakers. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education has two speakers located on the sides of the tablet. They provide great sound for watching videos, even in a noisy environment. The device also has a standard headphone jack for watching movies and listening to music when you can’t crank up the volume.
WebGL Aquarium. For the next test we used WebGL’s Aquarium, which measures the frame rate for different amounts of 3D fish that are rendered in the browser. The higher the frame rate the smoother the motion displayed on the screen.

GFXBench. GFXBench is a 3D graphics benchmark that measures graphics performance, long-term performance stability, render quality and power consumption with a single, easy-to-use application that is free in the Google play store.
The graphics test measures the pure shader compute performance, alpha blending performance, OpenGL driver’s CPU overhead, texturing performance, as well as ES 2 and ES 3 capabilities. Another nice feature in this app is that when your test is complete it compares your score to other devices that the app has tested, to give you an idea of how your device compares to others.
AnTuTu X Benchmark. AnTuTu X benchmark measures User Experience, CPU, RAM, 2D/3D graphics, GPU, I/O performance on Android smartphones or tablets. This app shows you the device information for storage, CPU, display, battery, OS, and network, as well as real time CPU information like CPU load and core performance. It also includes a stability test and lets you compare your device to others, so you know where your device stands.
Temperature. At the beginning of the test, we took a unit heat reading while the device was idle. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education measured a temperature of 78˚ F. After 2 hours of the WebGL’s Aquarium test, the temperature had risen to 87˚ F. Over 6 hours later, at the end of the test, the unit’s heat reading measured 87˚ F.
Battery Life. Battery life is a crucial factor for successful Tablet deployments. The test we used for battery life was the previously mentioned WebGL’s Aquarium test. We started the evaluation with a fully charged battery, WiFi on, and using 10 fish in the test. It took 6 hours and 15 minutes to fully drain the battery.
We evaluated the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education’s design, performance, and battery life and discovered the tablet to be a great tablet for students and teachers alike.
Additionally, we found that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education has an average Octane score of about 1,927 and exceptional HD video performance. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education’s long battery life, compatibility with Google Play for Education, is perfect for the classroom setting.
