Case. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01’s case looks sleek and sophisticated. The design is simple but refined, with a navy blue matte finish with a metallic ASUS logo on the lid. The construction of this device feels sturdy even though it only weighs 2 lbs.
Keyboard. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01’s keyboard feels spacious for an 11.6’ device. It has low profile black keys with white letters. They are nearly silent while typing with a fast response time. Like all Chromebooks, there is no number pad. The keyboard is 10.75” across with the letter and number keys measuring 0.5625” x 0.5625”, and are not backlit. Overall, the keyboard is very comfortable to use, especially for an 11.6” Chromebook.
Touchpad. The touchpad on the ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 measures 3.875” x 2.1875”. It has no visible buttons, and multi-touch capability. The touchpad also has a smooth, almost frictionless feel making it easy to navigate with and a click that you can both hear and feel when pressing down on it.
Display. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 has an 11.6” (1366 x 768) Glossy HD LCD display, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The bezel around the screen is smaller than average, with the top and bottom measuring .75”, and the sides measuring 0.5625”.
Speakers. The speakers on the ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 are located on the bottom of the device towards the front. We turned up the speakers to the maximum to see what they could do, and we found that the ASUS C201 had good volume and good sound quality.
Temperature. At the beginning of the test, we took a unit heat reading while the device was idle. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 measured a temperature of 79˚ F. After 1 hour of the WebGL’s Aquarium test, the temperature had risen to 90˚ F in the middle of the keyboard, 97˚ F in the middle of the underside, and 93˚ F in the HDMI port. At the end of the test, more than 5 hours after we started, the unit’s heat reading measured 97˚ F in the middle of the keyboard, 100˚ F in the middle of the underside, and 96˚ F in the HDMI port.
Battery Life. Battery life is an important aspect to consider when comparing Chromebooks. The test we used for battery life was the previously mentioned WebGL’s Aquarium test. We started the evaluation with a fully charged battery, WiFi on, and using 10 fish in the test. It took 5 hours and 32 minutes to fully drain the battery.
Boot Up Speed. Chrome OS devices are known for their fast boot up times, and the ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 does not disappoint. We timed 5 boot ups on the ASUS C201 and finished with an average boot time of 9.17 seconds.

WebGL Aquarium. For the next test, we used WebGL’s Aquarium, which measures the frame rate for different amounts of 3D fish that are rendered in the browser. The higher the frame rate, the smoother the motion displayed on the screen. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 did well.

Google+ Browsing. We also took a look at Chrome’s built-in FPS counter to measure frame rate and smoothness when scrolling through a site with dynamically generated content. For our test, we used a Google+ page. The counter was stable as content was loading with little faltering when scrolling down the page, staying between 5-60 fps.
HD Video Test. To test HD video playback, we used the Nvidia PureVideo HD Test video on YouTube using the “Stats for Nerds” feature, which can be accessed by clicking on the video’s context menu. We played the video on 720p (the highest resolution that can be displayed at 1366 × 768), and video playback was very smooth with 0 dropped frames for the entire length of the video.
We evaluated the ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01’s design, performance, and battery life and discovered the ASUS C201 to be a fast and easy to use 11.6” Chromebook. Additionally, we found that the ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01 has an average boot up speed of 9.17 seconds, an average octane score of 7,110 plugged in, and exceptional HD video performance. The ASUS Chromebook C201PA-DS01’s sleek design, sound performance, and low price point are sure to make it a strong option in the Chromebook marketplace.
